Philosophy - BCISB

EDUCATION IS NOT THE FILLING OF A PAIL, BUT THE LIGHTING OF A FIRE!

The BCISB Philosophy is our belief that education is about more than just narrating content from books while students take notes. A Canadian education school is a learning environment where students are the first priority; they are partners in the educational experience.

– Engaging and involving students in conversation

– Promoting collaboration through team activities

-Giving students a chance to independently grow and learn

– Providing plenty of chances for hands on learning to allow for sustainable retention of knowledge.

– Student thinking is valued even when it is flawed, with their errors used as opportunities for educational growth.

– Learning by hands-on work and experimentation, solving problems that are real and important to them.

The unique Canadian program will foster greatness in your very special children.

So, what is really meant when we say our school provides a Canadian style education?

We at BCISB are committed in providing a comprehensive program of instruction which prepares students for future challenges and opportunities. We equip our students for success in a rapidly changing world by providing a supportive learning environment that recognizes and respects individual differences, encourages students to challenge personal limits and promotes excellence.

As a part of the B.C. Global Education Program, British Columbia International School Bangkok makes it possible for students in Thailand to study the prestigious B.C. curriculum. Whether your children aspire to study and live in Canada, Thailand or anywhere in the world. A B.C Certification would greatly facilitate them throughout their lives.

British Columbia’s certified teachers and institutions are ranked among the best in the world, and for good reason. Our teachers are put through intensive trials to ensure they have a sound grasp over the most innovative and effective teaching methodologies.

While the program we offer at BCISB is Canadian, and more specifically from the province of British Columbia, it is international and constantly appraised to stay truly global. So, what is really meant when we say our school provides a Canadian style education?

Contrary to common belief, when talking about a Canadian education, we are not necessarily talking solely about curriculum content, but rather mostly about pedagogy. When it comes to curriculum and its content, BCISB uses performance standards from the BC Ministry of Education. These standards can be accessed via the BC Ministry of Education website. They are based on what we call “Best Practice” methods and content used in all BC schools.

In regards to pedagogy, a Canadian education school is a learning environment where students are the first priority; they are partners in the educational experience. Student thinking is valued even when it is flawed, with their errors used as opportunities for educational growth. Teachers, while respected, are not viewed as fully informed experts who transmit their knowledge, but as professionals who facilitate and model cooperative learning.

Canadian education emphasizes learning experiences in which children actively participate, learning by hands-on work and experimentation, solving problems that are real and important to them. The learning process utilizes interactive instruction methods such as discussions, debates, teamwork activities, and community service projects to elicit imaginative thinking, problem solving and decision making toward a goal of meaningful insight. Learning how to learn is key to the students’ ultimate success in life, and the Canadian education system places great importance on this principle. As students progress, they are given increased autonomy in the direction of their work, while also discovering how to work cooperatively with others. The ultimate goal is not just to prepare students for the next examination, but to develop the individual and make him or her passionate about learning. This is what we offer at BCISB.
